چکیده

trigeminal nerve. The patient subsequently died of a subarachnoid hemorrhage due to an aneurysm caused by Aspergillus infection. Although Aspergillus commonly originates in the lungs, more cases of paranasal sinus aspergillosis are being reported. It is possible that our patient had a paranasal sinus Aspergillus infection that extended into the orbital apex and carotid artery, although imaging studies did not indicate such an infection. The corticosteroid therapy, despite alleviating the symptoms, mayhaveexacerbated the infection and facilitated the resulting intracranial hemorrhage. Although somepatients survivewithaggressive earlytreatment,approximately60%of patients with central nervous system aspergillosisareeitherunsuccessfully treated or die. Painful ophthalmoplegia with visual loss merits careful evaluation. Although the underlying cause may not be apparent, the diagnosis of THS requires careful monitoring to ensure that other diseases have been excluded. The physician should have a low threshold to seek histopathologic clarification of the diagnosis.

Does PTEN gene mutation play any role in Li-Fraumeni syndrome?

Background: Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) is one of the most serious hereditary cancer syndromes with a high risk of malignancy in childhood. This syndrome is an autosomal dominant cancer predisposing syndrome due to a germline mutation in the TP53 tumor suppressor gene.   Methods: In this study, a representative family case of Li-Fraumeni syndrome is described. The proband of this family ...

Two families with the Li-Fraumeni cancer family syndrome.

The first two families to be identified in the United Kingdom with the Li-Fraumeni syndrome of familial cancer are reported. The first family comprises breast carcinoma in the mother and adrenocortical carcinoma, medulloblastoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma in three of her four children, and the second family comprises breast carcinoma in the mother and adrenocortical carcinoma and rhabdomyosarcoma in...

SALSA MLPA Probemix P088-B2 Oligodendroglioma 1p-19q

Gliomas are central nervous system neoplasms derived from glial cells and comprise astrocytomas, glioblastoma multiforme, oligodendrogliomas, and ependymomas. Gliomas are known to occur in association with several well-defined hereditary tumour syndromes such as neurofibromatosis (NF1 and NF2), tuberous sclerosis, Li-Fraumeni syndrome, and Turcot syndrome. However, familial clustering of glioma...

Chapter 7 . 1 Summary

Chapter 1 provides a general introduction to the Li-Fraumeni syndrome. Frederic P. Li and Joseph F. Fraumeni studied the possible association between childhood-onset sarcoma and breast cancer, after the referral of two cousins who both developed rhabdomyosarcoma in childhood. Subsequently, Li and Fraumeni suggested the existence of a new familial cancer syndrome with a predisposition to sarcoma...

Three germline mutations in the TP53 gene.

Three germline mutations in the TP53 tumor-suppressor gene are reported, two of which are not reported previously. A missense mutation at codon 265 of TP53 was found in three patients of a family that complied with the definition of the Li-Fraumeni syndrome. A nonsense mutation in codon 306 was found in a woman who had had a rhabdomyosarcoma at age 4 and a subsequent breast cancer at age 22. Sh...
